A response: the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas
Like so many of you, I’ve tried to do a lot of listening in the hours and days that have followed the tragic death of 19 children, two adults, an 18 year old boy and his grandmother. Lives that did not have to be lost. Like you I sit and wait for the response; in politics and in our social circles. Like so many other parents in our community I hesitated as I dropped our boys off at school the day after the shooting.
In 2020 gun violence became the leading cause of death for adolescents. We have to do something. Even if what we can do doesn’t feel like it’ll ever be enough. The story around gun violence has to change. That means legislation, education, awareness… the list goes on.
I’ve followed, admired and supported the work of Everytown for years. They’re the largest gun violence prevention in America and have been joined by 8 million mayors, moms, teachers, survivors, gun owners, students and people like you and me to make our cities safer.
That’s why I’m committing 10% of all design fees from projects during the months of summer break (June, July and August) to end gun violence AND support families of the victims from this school shooting.
I’m calling on small businesses in our communities to consider doing the same.
